Introduction
Wildfires are becoming an existential threat to the well-being of the U.S. population, particularly in the Western states. Wildfire seasons over the last few years have been the most destructive in history, each year a new negative record seems to be set, and wildfire severity is expected to further increase due to climate change. These issues illustrate the need to improve our built environment and increase the resilience of our infrastructure to wildfires.
Our research focuses on developing wildfire-resilient houses, buildings, and infrastructure, as well as on assessing and mitigating the effects on human health of wildfire-induced air pollution, which is one of the most severe contributors to economic and life losses.
